Health monitoring tools for new and expectant mothers often prioritize the baby, overlooking the mother's own well-being. StrideHx set out to change this imbalance. Its solution, the flagship product StrideHx Connect, shifts the focus to deliver comprehensive, personalized care for the mother.

ROLE
Design Lead
Traditional healthcare systems fail to offer continuous, at-home monitoring and education, creating fatal gaps that disproportionately harm pregnancy outcomes.
The lack of crucial and timely data needed for accurate guidance and treatment during and after pregnancy has been a major headache for most health providers.
Mental health is a key part of maternal health, but is often ignored, leaving many pregnant and new mothers without the means for early prevention or support.
We conducted a series of online interviews(6) with a mixture of pregnant, postpartum mothers to get a firsthand account of their pregnancy and motherhood journeys to inform our design decisions.
Insights from these interviews were synthesised to inform our personas.
Designed to feel supportive and conversational, the onboarding process gently guides new users through profile setup by collecting key details like biodata, pregnancy status, allergies, and medical history.
Once complete, users immediately access tailored insights like gestational age or postpartum week. They also receive curated educational content, symptom tracking, and mental health resources aligned with their unique needs.
Vitals Check and Symptom monitoring
Vitals checks and symptom monitoring allow users to track key health indicators (like blood pressure, pulse, and weight) and physical symptoms. This helps us identify patterns or early signs of health concerns.
Educational Content
Users have access to the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), which offers crucial mental health checks. Based on the score, the user can take the next steps, such as self-care tips, resources, or a connection with a healthcare professional.
Validation
Field tests and results
With our MVP, we conducted field tests with a few pregnant and postpartum users to determine what worked, what didn’t, and what we could improve.
Feedback was quite mixed. Users were pleased with Vitals checks, symptom monitoring, and mental health checks. However, they said they needed to experience the action steps to fully appreciate the product value proposition.
They wanted to experience speaking to a professional as an action step to see their experience come full circle.
Some wanted to be sure the educational content they were consuming was actually professionally vetted.
Others wanted access to trusted support groups via the app.
